AN afternoon of fun was held on Saturday at Oakenshaw Community Centre to raise funds for a Redditch youngster with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Jamie Wootton, six, sometimes has violent outbursts and finds it difficult to enjoy much relaxation or sleep because of the condition.

His mum, Stacy Wootton, family and friends, are trying to raise enough money to develop a sensory room in Jamie's bedroom which will help him relax.

Not only did his mum organise the fun day, which included apple-bobbing, face painting and a bouncy castle, she and her friends also did a car boot sale the next day to help raise more cash.

Miss Wootton said: "We raised £300 through both events but this wasn't really the great thing that came out of it.

"I was approached by several people whose children have ADHD and they didn't know where to turn.

"I'm lucky because I have plenty of information on it but many of these people were alone and frightened by the whole thing.

"We're going to organise a coffee morning or some sort of group where parents of children with ADHD can come and share their experiences."

She added: "Many parents felt they were the only ones in the situation and they shouldn't have to feel like this."

Anyone who would like to make a donation, has a fund-raising idea for Jamie's appeal or is a parent of a child with ADHD and would like to meet others, can call Miss Wootton on 456590.
