A REDDITCH school has shown its commitment to caring for the environment after earning its third green flag, signifying it as an 'eco-school'.

Webheath First School welcomed Redditch MP Jacqui Smith on Friday, who presented the flag, which demonstrates the school's efforts in recycling products and re-using and developing its environment and surroundings.

Webheath is one of only a few schools to be presented with the flag.

But there was more good news as Ms Smith also congratulated the school for earning its second Activemark Gold Award.

This achievement marks the school's provision of a wide range of physical education as part of the curriculum as well as extracurricular activities. Only 167 schools nationally have achieved the status.

Headteacher of the Downsell Road school, John Gooding, said: "This has been a very successful year for us. The two awards are recognition of the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone connected with the school."

The school also recently celebrated a good Ofsted report.
