SAILING: EIGHTEEN competitors and crews from across England and Scotland descended on Barnt Green Sailing Club for the Enterprise Association's U21s Youth Championships.
Five races were scheduled to take place on Upper Bittell Reservoir on Saturday and Sunday, September 4 and 5. But only three went ahead as two of Sunday's three events were abandoned due to a lack of wind.
The first race was won by reigning national champions Jonathan Lye and Holly Tuchwood from Notts County SC. The second race was claimed by David Hynes and Charles Bower of Royal Windermere YC.
David Hynes was crowned the new National Enterprise U21s champion.
The two Barnt Green boats, helmed by Tom Hall and Kate Smith, made a valiant effort but found the experience of those in the leading boats too great.
The club also held the Midlands Commodores Trophy Race last Saturday.
Colin Staite and Emma Clarke, of Bartley SC, won the event with Green's Merlyn Wilcox and Kate Brooks in second. Dave Banbury, of South Staffs SC, were third.
