CYCLISTS are gearing up for the new cyclo-cross season, with the first West Midlands League event on the horizon.

Competition begins in earnest for Bromsgrove Olympique Cycling Club on Sunday week at Elmdon Park, near Birmingham Airport.

Part of the preparation has seen riders record fast times in speed and stamina tests at Catshill Meadow.

As part of the 'Go Ride' skills activities being run by the club, George Bate and Dominic Jelfs both set quick times for the 1,200-metre stamina and 64-metre sprint respectively. George equalled the time of Evesham's Ben Stockdale in the process. Genny Billington was the fastest girl, with Kim Jackson not far behind.

Fast times were also set in the speed trials by 12-year-old Nathan Cox and 13-year-old Jonathan Griffiths, both fairly new to the sport.
