HIGH hopes were hammered down just slightly as Shaun of the Dead failed to deliver the goods.

Billed as the funniest British comedy for ages, expectations about this romcomzom (romantic comedy with zombies) were slowly but surely killed off like a lot of the cast.

Shaun's an ordinary salesman whose life seems to be going nowhere special, with a relationship on the rocks, spats with his housemates and a vendetta against his step dad.

And things don't seem to be getting any better as the dead come back to life as zombies - the only chance of escape is to get to the local pub The Winchester and keep safe.

Simon Pegg's first real outing on the big screen was spoilt by some silly kid humour which creeps into this film time and time again.

Pegg, the star of many a decent TV comedy in recent times (Spaced and Big Train) as well as the odd cameo in I'm Alan Partridge plays Shaun and this time teams up with the "new" crop of British talent.

Spaced co-stars Nick Frost and Jessica Stevenson line up with Black Books' Dylan Moran and The Office receptionist Dawn (Lucy Davis) as well as the resurgent Bill Nighy making it a star-studded cast.

Don't get me wrong, some of this movie is clever and it's probably worth the money alone just for the reels and reels of extras.
