FOR the first time in more than a century a Blackwell school will carry the name of the village it serves.
Linthurst First School has changed its name to Blackwell First, after realising that many people did not know the village had a school and even had difficulties finding it.
But it is not only the name of the school which has changed.
Pupils are now sporting a new uniform with a logo based upon a design by eight-year-old pupil Ella Smith-Carrington, who won the school's logo competition.
A new sign has also been erected carrying the logo, which shows an outline of the school building and a tree, reflecting the surrounding greenery.
The St Catherine's Road school is also looking for a new head following the departure of Colin Morris at the end of last term.
Deputy head Denise Lee is acting headteacher until the appointment is made.
