ARTIST Cheryl Lord, who followed her children to university to study fine art, is celebrating her first exhibition of paintings and photographs.

Cheryl, from Barnt Green, has just completed an MA in fine arts at Cardiff University where her 23-year-old daughter Kirsty is studying psychology.

Art and study run in the family because son Richard, 22, has just graduated from university in Hull with a BA in music technology.

The art exhibition, which was held in Solihull, marks something of a career change for Cheryl, who is 47 and a trained nurse and midwife.

Her first exhibition contained more than 50 examples of both paintings and photography, including some imagery utilising x-rays. "I believe that there are tremendous opportunities for combining art and science," said the mother of two who has not ruled out working in medicine again in the future.

"When the children went to university I decided to follow them. I am not sure where this will take me but I am now considering doing a Phd in fine art," added Cheryl.
