ANIMAL Aid is dismayed at latest Home Office statistics showing a significant increase in animal experiments.

From 2002 to 2003 the number of animals used rose by 59,000. Each year, millions more specially-bred animals are killed, unaccounted for, simply because they are surplus to requirements.

The Government would do well to launch a public inquiry into the questionable scientific validity of animal testing. This is all the more urgent in light of a recent survey of GPs.

Ending this outdated type of research will not only save animals, but it will also benefit human health. For more information, contact Animal Aid on 01732 364546 or at www.animalaid.org.uk
