WESTFIELDS extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a 2-1 win over Studley in the Travel Factory Alliance last night at allpay.park.

It was the Hereford side's fourth league win in a row and leads them into Saturday's FA cup tie with Carlton but they drop to second on goal difference due to Racing Club Warwick's 3-0 win.

Westfields had to reshuffle their team with Jon Hill, Paul Burton, Derek Craddock all ruled out through injury.

But they worked hard to achieve a result over a side that completed a league double over them last season.

Westfields opened the scoring in the 30th minute when good work by Paul Price, Sam Bowen and Anthony Pivett set up Matt Beale and he blasted the ball home off the post from 20 yards.

The hosts extended the lead five minutes later when Chris King raced clear to beat the advancing 'keeper.

But Studley came back into the game and Jon Pugh saved brilliantly from point-blank range when Craig Pountney was clean through.

Studley, however, pulled a goal back just before the interval through a Pountney header.

In the second-half, Westfields had appeals for a penalty turned down when Sam Bowen was brought down.

And Bowen had a shot cleared off the line after a fine run by Price. Studley came back in search of an equaliser but the Westfields defence, well marshalled by Alex Winstone, stood firm.

Meanwhile, Malvern Town did not have as good a night in the Alliance with a first home defeat of the season.

They slipped up 2-1 against Cradley Town who were bottom of the table.

Malvern's reserves were also beaten, 3-2 at Bilston Town in West Midlands League Division One.

Pershore Town fell 3-1 at Coleshill Town in the Midland Combination Premier Division.

In the Central Conference Reserve League, Hereford United defeated Bromsgrove Rovers 3-1.
