A DELIGHTFUL double bill of opera is on offer at Birmingham's Alexandra Theatre next week when the Chisinau National Opera perform Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagi and Leon Cavallo's Pagliacci.

Both sung in the original Italian and accompanied by surtitles, Cavalleria Rusticana is a Sicilian love tragedy featuring the famous Easter Hymn and the Brindisi, whilst Pagliacci is a love story set among a troupe of travelling clowns and includes the well-known On With The Motley made popular by Caruso.

A highlight of Pagliacci will be the appearance of international acrobats, led by the former Bolshoi Moscow Circus star Ion Stanca.

He now runs his own troupe, who tour throughout Europe and they will be accompanying the Chisinau National Opera in their autumn tour of the UK this year.

The performance takes place on Thursday, September 23, at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £13.50-£39.50 are available from 0870 607 7535.
