A "COMPELLING and deeply moving" comedy by Arthur Miller, The Price, arrives at Malvern's Festival Theatre for a short run on Monday.

Starring Warren Mitchell as furniture dealer Solomon, the production was the hit of last year's West End autumn season and won him an Olivier Award for his performance.

The plot revolves around the nearly 90-year-old Solomon, who finds himself at the centre of a confrontation between two long-estranged brothers. A spokesman explains: "Recently reunited after their father's death, Vic is a police officer who sacrificed his education and ambition to care for his father, while Walter, his brother, now a wealthy doctor, has always put himself first.

"Every man has his price but the two brothers start to question whether the very different paths they chose were worth the price at all.

"The characters play out their own personal dramas in a surprisingly funny comedy about the power of the family to create and destroy."

Best known as Alf Garnett in 'Til Death Us Do Part', Warren Mitchell has appeared on stage, in film and on television in a career spanning more than forty years. His theatre credits include the title role in King Lear and Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman.

Larry Lamb, whose extensive credits include The Prisoner's Dilemma and Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company, takes the role of Vic. The cast is completed by Brian Protheroe and Nancy Crane.

The Price runs until September 25 with evening performances at 8pm and Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. Tickets, priced £16-£22, are available from the box office on 01684 892277 or online at www.malvern-theatres.co.uk
