A LAST gasp goal saw Droitwich Spa Hockey Club Men's First XI edged out 5-4 in their latest pre-season warm-up.
New captain Paul Atkinson's side, who begin their West Midlands Division One campaign at Bromsgrove on Saturday week, conceded with the last hit of the game at home to Premier Division Kings Heath last Saturday.
Two Ed Deacon goals and one each from Luke Hine and last season's captain Barry Williams had got Spa to 4-4 until Kings Heath stole victory.
The captain said: "It was disappointing not to come away with the result from a close game but I felt our goals were very well worked so I'm not too disappointed that we lost."
Spa began their new season preparations with a 6-2 victory at Pershore on Saturday, September 4.
Captains old and new were on the scoresheet as Williams scored a hat-trick, while Atkinson got one. Summer skipper Deacon scored twice.
Hereford provide the opposition in this Saturday's final warm-up match at Salwarpe Valley, off Briar Mill.
The club, which has a junior section from U10s to U18s, is keen to recruit new members.
Training is on Wednesdays between 6.30pm and 7.30pm for juniors and 7.30 to 8.30pm for seniors. Anyone interested in joining can contact secretary Simon Blackmore on 01905 798588 or visit www.droitwich-hockey.freeserve.co.uk
