TWO car-crazy men are to embark on a madcap driving rally across seven countries in seven days in aid of a Worcester charity.

Matthew Pope and Dave Wilson have signed up to take part in the Cannonball Run and are hoping to raise thousands for the National Society for Epilepsy and the Noah's Arc Trust, a charity supporting bereaved children in Worcestershire.

The pair will pitch their Saab against all manner of vehicles in the annual event, which has attracted a total of 121 competitors.

The Cannonball Run is unlike any other rally staged in the world and it will see London black cabs going head-to-head with state-of-the art Ferraris and millionaires pitting their wits against milkmen.

The aim of the event is to match a target time set for each stage of the 2,863-mile route - the details of which remain a closely guarded secret until participants receive directions at each checkpoint.

Matthew and Dave, both from Brockworth, near Gloucester, are raring to go.

"I think it will be an amazing experience," said Matthew, whose brother has epilepsy.

"The scenery is said to be stunning and I hear the luxury hotels and infamous parties en route aren't bad either!"
