MAGICAL legends will be brought to life for a show at the Worcester Festival this weekend.

Local storyteller Hyman Rapstoff and Dorothy Capper will be performing their show A Glimpse of Sheba's Gold at the Swan Theatre.

The event is a programme of traditional storytelling, legends, folktale and anecdotes.

A Glimpse of Sheba's Gold itself is an Ethiopian legend, which will be told in a four-minute story by Mr Rapstoff.

He will also be narrating folktales, anecdotes and legends during the event.

"Some of my anecdotes will be in the first person, sometimes it may be a story about an uncle or grandfather," he said.

"Dorothy's real interest is in the monologue, but I'm a traditional storyteller.

"Dorothy will tell humorous monologues, some poetry and a couple of Aesop's Fables, which are often moral tales."

Mr Rapstoff said people do not have to live an exciting life to tell a tale, and sometimes members of the audience can find themselves talking of their own lives.

"Providing it is something you have remembered well, I will say please stand up and tell me, as long as it's not more than four or five minutes," he said.

"Sometimes in a few minutes we have produced someone that normally is too shy to come up and tell a story.

"Storytellers come from all walks of life, regardless of what your background is, or circumstances.

"There are a great variety of storytellers, and there is one storyteller who lives not far from Worcester who has published a tape where he talks of his heart attack story."

Mr Rapstoff says audiences should bring a sense of humour with them for the evening.

A Glimpse of Sheba's Gold is taking place at the Swan Theatre Bar, The Moors, Worcester at 7.30pm tomorrow.

Tickets for adults are £5, or £4 for children.
