THE soggy summer is set to continue with severe weather warnings issued for the weekend, and "surface flooding" and strong winds expected across Worcestershire.

The Met Office has forecast gusts of winds up to 50mph across the west of England and Wales and up to 2.75 inches of rain, leading to flooding tomorrow and on Monday.

Experts predict a 30 per cent chance that Worcestershire will be hit with road closures and falling tree branches.

"People should take note," said Met Office spokesman Wayne Elliott. "We're not yet suggesting you should rethink a journey, but be aware of it.

Extra care

"Everybody will cop some of it. There'll be localised flooding where the rain's heaviest. It will be more than just taking a brolly stuff."

The Highways Agency has also urged drivers to take extra care as spray will reduce visibility and slick roads increase braking distances.

Drivers of high-sided vehicles and caravans should check the forecast before travelling, while all motorists are advised to check their brakes after driving through water.
