I WAS dismayed to read your article in the Evening News on Saturday, July 10.

I feel Annette Edwards' proposal to breed Continental Giant rabbits is misguided.

I have kept rabbits as pets over the past 20 years, have had lots of heartache when they became ill, and have spent hundreds of pounds on vets bills trying to ensure they receive the best possible treatment.

My oldest rabbit lived to be almost 10, and if a Continental Giant lived to this age, it could be a costly pet.

My point is that a rabbit such as the Continental Giant will, a) be costly to feed, b) may be costly to keep healthy, c) is potentially too big to be a child's pet and, d) may become unwanted once the novelty of the "in" pet has worn off.

There would also be the cost of a suitably large hutch if it is to be kept in one and all the bedding. Normal-sized hutches can cost up to £90, so one for Roberto could cost around £300.

I would suggest that Annette Edwards rethinks her plans.
