YOUNGSTERS in Brom-yard's Conquest Theatre Youth Group are presenting a showcase of sketches and scenes from contemporary theatre.

The Wasteland Revue on Monday and Tuesday includes girls dressed as chickens having a bad hair day and extracts from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Scenes from After Juliet, a play that deals with the tension between the Montague and Capulet families after Romeo and Juliet have died, will also be performed.

Barbara Hockley, who took over the youth group at Easter, said the scenes and sketches on show were not originally planned for a performance.

"But they are all very talented and keen to perform wherever possible," she said.

Other scenes in the revue include extracts from the Queen Must Die, a comedy dealing with the anguish of three girls before the Queen's Jubilee Parade, and Brokenville, another contemporary play set in the aftermath of a catastrophe, where a group of seven people embark on a storytelling adventure.

The scenes are all set in the wasteland, a universal meeting place.

Mrs Hockley said she was very impressed with the young actors and the youth group would be putting on a production each term.

"I believe they'll become even more impressive once we get used to working together," she said.

The Wasteland Review plays at The Conquest at 7.30pm on both days. Tickets are £4, concessions £3, available from the box office on o1885 488575.

Anyone between the ages of 11 and 16 who would like to join the youth group should visit www.conquest-theatre.org.uk for more details.
