MALVERN was a popular place for trippers to visit a century ago, according to the Gazette of July 8, 1904.

Among the visitors on the Monday of that week were two church choirs from Leicester, the annual picnic of North Birmingham Liberal Unionist Association and a party of 80 from Walsall.

On Wednesday, about 120 members of the Bristol Licensed Victuallers Association held an annual outing here.

On the other hand, Trinity Church Choir from Malvern visited London.

They set off from the Link at 3am, arrived at Paddington at 7am, visited many the sights and arrived back home at 3am the following morning.

It was also a long day for 240 excursionists who left Malvern at 2.35am for a six-hour train trip to Scarborough.
