FOR many years I would have supported the correspondent calling for more understanding of gipsy families.
But now I fear we are losing the plot.
A few years ago we had a visitation of tinkers in the field below us and their behaviour was appalling.
It was clear that they were wealthy, but deeply antisocial people hell bent on destroying their temporary environment and causing a minor crimewave around them.
Sadly, our local police avoided tackling them at the time and it was clear that this is what the tinkers had come to expect - so they behaved even more appallingly to emphasise their power.
Too much liberal humanitarian "concern" for people who simply abuse it can be just as much of a social problem as too little.
Somewhere along the line we have to decide what ordinary British folk are getting for the vast sums we pay to sustain the country.
JIM EVANS,
Worcester.
