A youth centre volunteer has been thanked after frightening off 25 youths pushing away its minibus.

At about midnight on Friday, 19-year-old Lee Bicker, who regularly helps out at Malvern Youth Centre, was on his way home from a night out in Great Malvern.

He had stopped outside the centre on Albert Road North to meet up with friends when he noticed a gang of about 25 pushing the mini-bus toward the police station.

Without hesitation he approached the group of young men. He said: "I ran and shouted and told them to stop it.

"I just did it without thinking. I didn't think it was brave. Someone else would have done it."

Lee's tactics worked and the group abandoned the bus in an emergency entrance to Malvern Police Station.

Lee and his friend Charlie Davies, 18, then rang Malvern Youth Centre's manager Dena Falk, who contacted the police.

Ms Falk said: "I don't think the people who did this could have realised the seriousness of the event. It could have caused a severe accident.

"The bus would have cost us between £15,000 and £20,000 to replace. It was just amazing that Lee was here waiting for friends to walk home. He was extremely brave. I would like to say a huge thank-you to both him and to Charlie."
