IN reply to your article (Malvern Gazette, July 2) regarding the possibility of the helicopters being grounded at next year's Three Counties, I cannot hide my disbelief at the narrow-mindedness of complaining local residents.

First of all, the Three Counties Show is a massive event which puts Malvern on the map, benefiting not just the organisers of the show but all local amenities. I cannot hide my dismay that a popular attraction such as helicopter rides could be grounded because for four days it made a bit of noise.

I too live right by the showground and have a young son and would be the first to admit the helicopters were noisy but surely something that was extremely popular can only help make the Three Counties Show better and ultimately bigger, which will benefit us all in the Malvern area.

Secondly, it begs the question as to why certain residents wish to present such a pretentious image to the visitors to our town, with people who are keen to promote what a great place it is as long as it's not on their doorstep. Too many times have I read in the Gazette 'local residents complain' etc.

However, I feel I am fighting a losing battle and I am sure helicopter rides will not feature at next year's show, which is a great shame!

What next, a ban on amusement rides? A ban on alcohol? How about a ban on fun?
