WORCESTER residents are being urged to save a life before they hit the sun, sea and sand this summer.

The National Blood Service is asking donors to roll up their sleeves before they jet off so that stocks can remain healthy during the next few months.

While many people will be enjoying the holidays, the National Blood Service will still need to supply 480 units a week to hospitals in Worcester and Hereford.

However, over the summer the service experiences a slump, receiving 10 per cent fewer donations nationally each week.

"We advise donors to plan ahead and make sure they donate their pint before they go on holiday," said Lyndsay Stewart, spokeswoman for the NBS.

"We need a constant supply of blood so please make sure you 'give before you go' this summer. It's an easy way to save someone's life."
