A BRAVE Droitwich girl whose life is plagued by chronic eczema is to overcome extreme pain tomorrow to raise money for charity.

Samantha Spencer, aged 10, sometimes struggles to even walk because of the condition.

But the young Waterside Close resident is determined to jog a mile in the morning to generate cash for BBC's Sport Relief.

She will go from St Richard's statue in Vines Park to Droitwich Rugby Club to help children less fortunate than herself as part of the national campaign.

"Sam's legs are particularly bad at the moment and at times she finds it hard to even bend her knees, but she is determined to go out on Saturday for Sport Relief," said mum Kate, who is a town councillor.

"I am so proud of her. She has had a lot to cope with and is often in a lot of discomfort. Some days are a nightmare she is in such pain.

"Anyone who sees her legs on Saturday will know exactly how much she is putting in to this event."

Samantha's gallant efforts are even more amazing in light of the fact she was critically ill earlier in the year.

The Westacre Middle School pupil contracted salmonella and dysentery while on a family holiday to Tunisia.

"It was very serious at one point, but Sam being Sam, she fought it and is now OK," added Mrs Spencer.

"Her main problem now, as it has always been, is her eczema. She has been lying on the settee all week because it is so bad, but she says she is determined to do the jog.

"And I know she will do it, because that's how she is. The only downside is that she has dragged poor old mum in to do it too."

Samantha is to be awarded for her bravery at next week's Young Achievers Award ceremony in Droitwich.

She will be among nine young people to be honoured in the first initiative of its kind in the town.
