AN anti-flood campaigner from Worcester will join a host of high-profile speakers at a prestigious conference in London today.

Mary Dhonau has been invited to talk alongside representatives from the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Environment Agency (EA) at a meeting of the "Sewerage Management Think Tank".

The conference is being held at London's institute of physics and Mrs Dhonau, of the National Flood Forum, has been asked to give a presentation on her experiences in Worcester.

In 2000, 3ft or 91cm of sewage filled her Waverley Street home when the River Severn flooded.

Mrs Dhonau and residents of Cavendish Street - which was also affected by sewage flooding into their homes - joined forces to campaign for action.

Evidence was presented to Downing Street and Severn Trent admitted there was a problem.

Mrs Dhonau will discuss the events with representatives from DEFRA and the EA, as well as water boards and insurance companies at the conference.

The conference will look at the latest innovations to tackle sewer flooding, sustainable long-term management of the sewerage system and the legal implications of the scourge.
