A LIFELINE will be thrown to Hartlebury Castle as the home of Worcestershire County Museum if members of an overview and scrutiny panel briefed with looking at its future have their way.

Frank Baillie, chairman of the Worcestershire County Council resources scrutiny panel which met yesterday to finalise its report on the future of the facility at Hartlebury and the museums service itself, said the panel was in favour of keeping the museum where it was.

The advisory group's report concludes the county council should invest in the lift (to conform to the Disability Discrimination Act, which comes into force in October), caf and exhibits at Hartlebury and will be presented to the cabinet on July 15.

"There was one member who believed the Hartlebury site was not suitable and a different site should be found but the majority of us said we should make a better job of Hartlebury," councillor Baillie said of yesterday's meeting.

"We've also said there has to be a more aggressive marketing plan to draw more people in."

Three of the five options initially put forward for consideration involved closing the attraction at Hartlebury.
