GARY Seadon topped the weights at last week's Tues-day Evening Open that took place on the new pool, Phil's, at The Fishery.

Competitors caught bream, tench, chub and carp in what proved a most interesting contest.

These midweek matches will continue until further notice with the draw at 5.30pm.

Seadon, aided by a 4lb tench, recorded a double when winning Sunday's Avon Shield match at Common Road. Howe-ver, members found the going tough and struggled for bites.

There's a visit to Hill View Fishery on Sunday for a Still-water Series match that gets under way with the draw at 7am.

Evesham Festival Qualifier

LAST Saturday saw 55 anglers fishing the second Shakespeare qualifying match for the Evesham Angling Festival Final.

Steve Ashmore recorded a notable double by winning for the second successive week.

Fishing with chopped worm on a pole, he netted around three pounds of bits, a tench that weighed in at four pounds eight ounces and a five-pound bream for a winning total of 12lbs 11ozs off peg 27 on Evesham Town Waters.

Runner-up was Dennis Lips-combe from London who also boasted a five-pound bream and a bag of bits fishing with a pole off peg 51 on Hampton Ferry Waters for a total weight of 8.12.8.

In third place was local angler Jim S Smith (7.10.0) fishing peg 31 on the Town. Alcester's Tony Avery (7.7.0) was fourth and Evesham Youth AC's David Smith (7.0.0) was fifth.

The next qualifier is Sunday and tickets are available from Diana Raphael on 01386 41270.

Evesham WMC

TWO nets were certainly needed at Rissington Road Lake where 1,269 lbs of fish were netted at an average of 90 per angler.

John Drew came out on top with 155lbs of carp on the pole to edge out Phil Preston (154.10.0) and Robin Locke (145.0.0).

The next match is at Lemin-gton Lakes with the draw at 7am.

THE final round of the Summer Evening League sta-ged at Manor Farm Leisure last Thursday saw all members using their nets.

Wayne Panting put more than anyone else in his net with a winning weight of 52.0.0, well ahead of second-placed Howard Norledge (39.8.0). In third place with 29.0.0 was new member and helper Malcolm Sant.

Nine members visited the Jubilee Lakes last Sunday and enjoyed an entertaining match when Panting continued his assault on yet another trophy by putting 23.8.0 on the scales.

In second, fishing from permanent peg 34, was Bill Scarrott who recorded a weight of 16.8.0. Jerry Ackerman, fishing peg nine was third (9.14.0).

Members are reminded that Sunday's match is at Lemin-gton Lakes with an 8am draw at the cafe.

Evesham Youth AC

JACK Norledge won his second match in the Journal Cup Series after catching tench, eel, ruffe and perch.

Dan Leigh was runner-up in his first match of the season with Damian Smith taking third spot.
