CRIME prevention advice will be showcased during an event in Bewdley bringing together representatives of emergency services and a variety of agencies.

The Wyre Forest Community Safety Fair, hosted by north Worcestershire officers of West Mercia Constabulary, runs from 10am until 3pm on Saturday.

It will be spread across a variety of venues, including the Guildhall foyer, the fire station and the riverside area.

The police officers attending will give advice on a whole range of safety issues.

PC Nigel Barter, beat manager for Bewdley, said: "This is the second community safety fair to be held in Bewdley and we hope to build on our successes from last year.

"Many local partnership agencies are joining us and together we hope to reach a cross-section of the local community to offer specialist safety advice.

"Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade will be participating and will have a fire engine on display and officers available for fire safety advice.

"The Environment Agency are also joining us this year and will be bringing along a mini-excavator and demonstrating the new flood barrier system near the river.

"We will have at least one police car on display and officers from the Road Safety Team will be promoting safety on the road and hoping to show the new ANPR - Automatic Number Plate Recognition - car for the first time in Bewdley.

"We also hope to have representatives promoting the Neighbourhood Watch scheme, explaining the reassurance and reduction in crime in areas where the scheme is operated.

"Wyre Forest Community Housing and the Wyre Forest Community Safety Partnership will be attending and the Wyre Forest Primary Care Trust plan on having an ambulance as part of their display.

"Bewdley Chamber of Trade will also be participating and will be promoting the Radio Watch initiative to local businesses.

"We will also have information on how to become a Special Constable with North Worcestershire Police. Their contribution to the safety of an event is always highly valued and we will be encouraging people in the local community to consider joining them.

"We hope that the fair will be both informative and fun. We have leaflets and balloons to hand out and many activities planned for the day, including a safety competition and a spot the monkey competition for younger children.

"We have had some fabulous family prizes donated and we would like to thank those organisations that have shown their support for the event."
