A STAR of the future - that's talented batsman Will Gifford.

And to prove it he's won £30 worth of vouchers to spend at the Fearnley Factory Shop in Worcester.

It's the 18-year-old's richly deserved reward for his brilliant 142 not out for Kidderminster Victoria in their winning draw against Leamington last Saturday.

It enabled the Chester Road club to replace Leamington at the top of the table in Division One of the Birmingham League.

"I rank it as my best innings. I had to work quite hard at the start, but it got easier," said Will, whose burning ambition is to play cricket professionally.

He began playing at the age of 11 for Tamworth Cricket Club before joining Kidderminster.

It was while performing for Malvern College, however, that he was spotted by Worcestershire where he became involved in the club's Academy set-up.

During pre-season he played for Worcestershire 2nd Xl in a friendly against Gloucestershire at Bristol - and scored 104.

Last Saturday's three-figure innings for Kidderminster, however, wasn't his highest score. That was 158 for Malvern College against Rugby School last year.

Because last weekend's programme was devastated by rain there were insufficient five-wicket performances to warrant a bowling award this week.

It will return next week - weather permitting!
