HOUSEHOLDERS in the Vale of Evesham have been praised for taking recycling seriously.
In the past year, over 6,000 tonnes of waste was recycled within Wychavon compared to 3,800 tonnes the previous year, a massive 58 per cent increase.
The purple and clear sack recycling scheme was rolled out in the district last year.
Sacks are put out on alternate weeks with domestic rubbish.
Both sacks are collected by two-compartment lorries, recyclables are put on one side to be taken to the recycling plant and the household waste in the other to be taken to landfill.
Wychavon client services manager Sharon Casswell said: "These marvellous figure prove we take paper, cans, textiles and plastics to be recycled. I am delighted that so many people have taken part in the scheme which means less waste going into landfill sites, good news for the environment."
