A MAN who has worked at Sunday car boot sale for 13 years has spoken of his devastation after being told it has to close because of its success.
Since 1991 Fred Phipps, of Kersoe, Elmley Castle, has been running the Worcestershire County Council car boot sale at Worcester Woods Country Park, but the county council is calling a halt at the end of September.
Sixteen staff employed for the Sunday event, including marshals and caterers, will lose their jobs.
Andy Maginnis, countryside estates manager, said the car boot sale was started primarily as a way of bringing additional income into the Country Park to help in its management but it is now eating into its finances due to such factors as litter and traffic congestion.
