A COLOURFUL day of creativity, fun and games will be enjoyed by all at a family party to celebrate Sure Start this weekend.

Music, dancing competitions, bouncy castles and circus workshops will be some of the entertainment at Worcester's Perdiswell Leisure Centre on Saturday.

There will also be stalls, games, a colouring competition, a baby massage tent, free refreshments and face-painting. The fire brigade, police and dental health experts will offer advice and information also.

This year's theme is teddy bears. Children are urged to bring along their furry friends, and there will be a win-a-teddy competition and free prize draw every half an hour.

The fun day comes at the end of Sure Start Month, which has highlighted work to help struggling young families in the poorest parts of Worcester.

"It's a fantastic day for the whole family, and the focus is on very young children, as well as having fun," said Ian Craigan, programme manager for Sure Start.

"Sure Start is for parents with children under four, but the fun day is for families with children of all ages."

Sure Start aims to work with parents-to-be, and parents with children under four to promote the physical, intellectual and social development of babies and young children.

It is a Government-funded initiative led in Worcester by a multi-agency partnership involving city and county councils, health trusts, community and voluntary organisations and parents living in Sure Start neighbourhoods.

Dines Green, Tolladine, Brickfields and Warndon are particularly targeted by Sure Start programme.

n The event, at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Bilford Road, Worcester, starts at 11am.

Every family registered with Sure Start will have been sent a travel voucher for free travel on buses from Perdiswell for the day.

Buses leave The Green Centre, Tolladine Community Centre, Warndon Community Centre and The Fairfield Centre at 10.30am and at 12.30pm.
