woods horror

The families speak

TWO young girls targeted by a sex attacker earlier this week have been robbed of their innocence, say their parents.

The victims were playing in woods off Celvestune Way, on the Chawson estate in Droitwich, at around 4.30pm when a man allegedly exposed himself to them and told them to touch him.

Now the father of one girl, and the mother of the other, has opened their hearts to the Evening News about how the incident has affected their lives.

"It has taken away her innocence. She cannot sleep and she keeps on looking out for him. She is talking about what happened all the time." said the mother.

"The really worrying thing is, this man is intelligent - so much so that the girls did not tell us what happened until the next day.

"Our girls are not stupid and yet they were still taken in by him."

The father of the other victim described what happened.

"They were playing in woods when they spotted some pornographic magazines," he said.

"They took these with them and went out of the woods for a walk. It was then that this man approached them.

"He took an interest in the magazines and invited them back into the woods. There he exposed himself and told them both to touch him.

"They only got away when my son called them in for dinner.

"I dread to think what would have happened if he hadn't done that. I also dread to think what could still happen as long as this man is out there."

Now both parents have urged people in the area to be extra vigilant in light of the attack.

They said they were not trying to frighten people, but believe they should be aware of the dangers.

Young children could easily be taken in by him, added the mother.

"It is important people realise that this man is out there.

I used to hate all the hysteria that surrounded incidents like this, added the father.

I always thought it was uncalled for and it would never happen to my kids.

But now it has.

WANTED: Have you seen this man?

South Worcestershire Police have issued the description of a man they want to interview following a sexual incident involving two young children.

He is white, tall, aged about 30, with mousey-coloured hair and was wearing a blue T-shirt, beige shorts and white trainers. He told the girls he came from Birmingham, but did not have a "Brummie" accent.

Officers want to talk to two young boys who were seen in the area on their bicycles at the time. They believe the youngsters may have seen the man or have other important information.

They also want to hear of any other similar but unreported incidents that may now be recalled after hearing of this case.

"We are taking the reports very seriously and enquiries have been on-going in the area," said Det Sgt Dave Lewis, who is leading the investigation.

"Residents should not be alarmed to see uniformed and plain-clothes officers over the next few days, carrying out a detailed search and door-to-door enquiries.

"We have alerted schools in the area and urge all parents to make sure they know the whereabouts of their children at all times.

Anyone with any information about the inciden is asked to call police on 08457 444888 and quote incident number 305C/280604 or 88S/290604.
