PRE-SCHOOL: An invitation is extended to anyone interested to visit the village hall on Thursday, July 8, from noon to 2.20pm or 5.30pm to 7.30pm to see what the pre-school has to offer to children of two, three or four years of age. Members of staff will be present throughout those periods of time to explain the routine, to discuss daily and/or weekly charges and to demonstrate the excellent equipment and facilities which are there for these young children. Spaces are still available for the next school term which begins on September 6.

SUMMER CONCERT: Harvington Singers' Summer Concert took place on Friday evening and was blessed with good weather which meant that the strawberries, cream and wine which are traditionally served during the interval were able to be consumed out of doors. The programme of light music, interspersed with one or two items of more serious nature, was well received and a particularly warm reception was given to six members of the Bretforton Silver Band who appeared as guest artistes and whose rendering of Land of Hope and Glory had the audience singing heartily in what was hoped was a pleasant burst of sound issuing from the parish church on a warm summer's evening. The Singers will be in rehearsal immediately for their part in the planned special Evensong in the church on Sunday, July 25. Details of this event will be published shortly, but they are part of a weekend's celebration of the Patronal festival of St James the Great, to whom the church is dedicated.

FIRST SCHOOL: The quiz organised by the committee and members of the school's PTFA and held last Saturday evening in the village hall was enjoyed by those present but, not as well supported as the organisers had hoped. Eight teams took part, representing many village organisations including the PTFA itself. The questions, which were varied in their content and presentation, were prepared by Debbie and Andrew Muir. The event had been organised to raise funds for further equipment to be bought for the new computer room. Most fittingly, in the circumstances, the winners were the PTFA's own team of parents, calling themselves The Edge.

The annual leavers' service will become part of the morning service on Sunday at St James' church when it is hoped that some of the children will be taking an active part. The leavers will each be presented, as is the custom, with a Bible. The service will start at 9.30am and anyone interested will be welcomed.
