The demolition of the historic Worcestershire hotel sparked a great deal of interest for one 10-year-old boy who has devoted hours compiling a project about the landmark.

Jamie Deas, of Rebekah Gardens, was so moved by the decision to demolish the town centre landmark that he decided to compile a project about the hotel.

The project, using pictures, newspaper cuttings and words, depicts the building in its hey day before the Worcestershire apartments were built in its place in 2003.

The Witton Middle School pupil researched the building's history and visited the site daily to photographically record the process of its demolition.

His mum, Alison, is very pleased and proud of her son, who appears to be following in his grandfather's footsteps. The late John Brettell was a local historian who had two books published about Droitwich Spa.

"Jamie was nine-years-old at the time of the demolition and insisted that we went down to the site every day to photographically record what was happening," said his proud mum.

"He became known to the workmen and, in particular, to the site foreman who invited Jamie on site to take internal photographs of the building before it was lost forever.

"Jamie now has a comprehensive diary detailing each phase of the demise of the Worcestershire Hotel and the rise of The Worcestershire."

She added: "He has shared his local history enthusiasm with his fellow classmates and perhaps brought further awareness to young people of the value and beauty of what we have, or have had, here in Droitwich Spa."
