ARTHUR Jenner, a rough-looking tramp, and his wife, Lily Jenner, who said they came from Windsor, were charged with being drunk and disorderly in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday evening.

Both defendants admitted having had drink but denied being really drunk and much less disorderly.

The male defendant said he was not "properly drunk".

Pc Penlington said when on duty in Mount Pleasant, at 5.15 on Saturday evening, he saw defendants, who were very drunk and disorderly, and threatening people with two murderous-looking long sacking needles.

He had received many complaints of their conduct.

There was a crowd of 300 gathered around and he had to take them into custody.

The male defendant said they were strangers to the town and were set upon.

What he did was in self-defence but he denied threatening people with the sacking needles.
