ANDY Law and Paul Lyman made the most of a perfect batting track to power past Bewdley in Chaddesley Corbett's derby victory on Saturday.

Law (86) and Lyman (64) produced confident strokeplay to secure 20 Worcestershire League Division One points for Chaddesley in a four-wicket success.

But Bewdley got off to a good start against their rivals after being put into bat through openers Mike Gavan (30) and Martin Flack (18).

After a partnership of 58, they both fell quickly, leaving Simon Mauger and Paul Edwards (17) to rebuild the innings.

Mark Bennett (37) joined Mauger (55) to rattle the score along and a score of 230 looked likely but the innings went into rapid decline from 173-3.

Neil Griffiths (4-74) and Rowan Vorster (3-29) broke through as the Bewdley tail crumbled with six wickets falling in eight overs, despite a few lusty blows from Simon Smith (20 not out).

Chaddesley started badly, struggling at 28-3 to Mark Bennett and Robert Combes who took 3-53 and 3-42 respectively.

But it did not take Law and Lyman long to show that Bewdley's 203 would not be enough and they added 151 runs in 32 overs.

Lyman lost his middle stump to Combes before Law continued to punish tired bowling and fielding, though a rash Griffiths shot gifted a catch to Mauger.

Bewdley gained a bonus point when the scores were level and Law survived a dropped catch but was later smartly caught by Gavan at slip to end a superb knock.

Chaddesley wrapped up the four-wicket win though and are now fourth in the table.

Bewdley 203, Chaddesley 204-6.

Matt Yardley rattled up a century for Chaddesley seconds but they slipped to a seven-wicket defeat against Bewdley.

Yardley crashed 100 not out in Chaddesley's 188-9 but Bewdley picked up 20 points as Andy Robinson (88 not out) and David Jones (43) helped guide them home with eight overs left.

Chaddesley 2nds 188-9, Bewdley 2nds 189-3.

Chaddesley reached the National Village Knockout Cup area semi-finals with a fine win over Astwood Bank.

Mark Edward scored 57 not out and claimed three wickets as Chaddesley over-took Bank's 138 all out on Sunday.
