On Saturday, May 1, with others, went from Evesham to Spalding, Lincs, for the Flower Festival.

On our journey through Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire I noticed various means of advertising along the route and it brought back memories of the dispute between Wychavon District Council and Mr Guy near Wyre Piddle.

This advertising alongside all the roads, including the motorways, ranged from a board about two feet square advertising 'Good food at next exit' nailed to the fence or a post, via several sizes of trailer up to the large articulated, to vans. Most of these were in fields with crops growing around them, and most of them were nothing to do with the product of the land on which they were stood, and presumably with no objections from the local authority.

Here in Wychavon, a person parks his trailer, on his land, initially in a reasonably unobtrusive spot, yes it could be seen from the road, and the District Council objects. Yes, later it did come down to the road edge, and was a bit 'in your face', but given the aggravation who would not have done the same.

One wonders, if there had been no name on the trailer, a most unusual feature, and the trailer parked in the same locations, would the District Council still have complained. I cannot help wondering if someone at the council is trying to qualify for a 'Jobsworth Award', or could it be maybe Mr Guy has upset someone in the past. At the end of the day these are council employees, we pay their wages, granted we need to have some regulation about what goes where, but lets face it this was Mr Guy parking his trailer on his land.
