EVERYONE bar wicket-keeper Duncan Willetts had a bowl on Saturday for Kidderminster Victoria.

But the town team could still not dismiss Aston Unity in a Birmingham and District League Division One winning draw.

Acting skipper Jonathan Wright gave 10 players a chance to impress and another unusual sight was five slips and four gullies for Ted Baylis' bowling.

It was all to try and remove Aston's last three batsmen but ended up being in vain as the visitors hung on at 184-7 from 55 overs in reply to KVCC's 217-9.

The hosts had struggled to get runs at first after being put into bat with only nine coming from the first six overs.

Only 18 runs had arrived between Wright and Mark Mansell when Hussain bowled the latter for one following three maiden overs.

Young Will Gifford joined Wright and started cautiously but the more experienced player opened up to push KVCC onto 31 by the 10th over.

Wright looked set for a big score but skied a delivery and was caught out after making 41 from just 11 scoring hits.

Craig Wood was also caught out for six before Nigel Davenport added spice to the batting, taking the score to 139 in the 41st over with Gifford.

Davenport (28) was stumped attempting a big hit, then summer signings Andy Mason and Matt Friedlander could only add four and eight respectively.

But Baylis gave good support as the score progressed until teenager Gifford fell to a catch when he had reached an impressive 81.

Baylis added 21, Chris Pyke 15, Willetts three not out and Marc Derrick two not out as Aston were set a reasonable target.

The Birmingham side did not find run making any easier in the opening stages and were reduced to 41-5 after only 11 overs.

Friedlander (2-47) removed Cooke for five and clean bowled James for a duck, while Baylis took the wicket of Abid Din via a Wright catch.

And Wood sent Nicholas (19) back to the pavilion with a superb run-out.

Aston's troubles increased when Baylis (2-64) struck again with Wright again taking the catch to remove Young for six.

It looked as if KVCC were set for their first win of the season but Rahman and Stevenson had other ideas.

They forged a 59-run partnership when was finally ended when Wright (1-5) bowled Rahman for 29.

A Pyke catch from Davenport's bowling accounted for Stevenson (24) in the next over and spirits were high at 100-6.

But Aston dug deep and ate into the KVCC total while refusing to give away another wicket through Quinn (37 not out) and Phipps (36 not out).

Wright battled hard to ruffle their feathers and several chances were put down as the sight of 10 fielders behind the wicket gave some slight comic relief.

Derrick conceded just eight runs from eight overs, including four maidens, in a good bowling display.

KVCC have no game this weekend but Saturday's 14 points have lifted them up the table for now.

KVCC 217-9, Aston Unity 184-7.

The seconds swooped for a fine victory against Barnt Green and 20 points which put them fourth in the Premier Division table.

They entertain bottom-of-the-table Walsall on Saturday.

Barnt Green 137, KVCC 2nds 138-4.

KVCC have a Birmingham League Challenge Cup first round clash with county rivals Worcester at Chester Road on Wednesday (6.30pm).
