I HAVE recently been admitted, on two occasions, to the Beech Unit at Royal Worcestershire Hospital, and would like to make the following observations.

New patients are immediately aware of the calmness and happiness of the environment.

This is achieved through fantastic teamwork. Everyone supports the work of every other member, giving additional help wherever necessary.

The staff are happy and include their patients in conversations, which in turn give the emotional support, and encouragement which many of us need while in hospital.

The needs of each patient are met using a range of strategies appropriate to each individual. It is significant that throughout the day and night, regardless of demands, everyone maintained a smile and a degree of compassion, which made every person feel special.

Patients were asked before routine observations were recorded and thanked afterwards. Relevant information was given and questions answered promptly and professionally using language which was readily understood.

I am very surprised that some form of patient evaluation is not requested. I was only aware of very positive comments from other patients and these should be collected as evidence of good practice.

It is wrong that those of us who benefit from such superb service do not have the means of recording our gratitude, hence this letter.
