The Wales Theatre Company is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Dylan Thomas by bringing his classic Under Milk Wood to Malvern.

The production also marks 50 years since the first broadcast and stage performance of what has become the world's most famous radio play and Wales's most celebrated piece of theatre.

Under Milk Wood offers a voyeuristic slice of life in a typical Welsh seaside town and this particular version has been endorsed by Thomas' daughter, Aeronwy Thomas. She said: "I have seen some 200 productions of Under Milk Wood, and this is the best."

Described as a 'play for voices', Under Milk Wood recounts dreams, gossip and waking hours of the sleepy seaside town of Llareggub over a 24-hour period in the spring. The piece is funny, touching and delightful, reflecting the places Thomas knew and grew up in, particularly Laugharne, New Quay and Swansea.

The play's unforgettable characters such as Captain Cat, Myffanwy Price, the Reverend Ely, Polly Carter and Dai Bread populate this odd place. Together, 50 years on, their affectionate charm and humour still captivate and entertain.

Under Milk Wood will be on at Malvern's Festival Theatre from Tuesday, June 1, to Saturday, June 5. For more information, contact the box office on 01684 892277.
