I was delighted to read Brian Elliott's letter, "Global warming and Warndon Villages..." and support what he says, apart from the bit about "cars".

Cars have transformed our lives to the point whereby many of the things we do today would be impossible without the car.

The car is undoubtedly a contributor to global warming, but we are on the cusp of "fuel cell" technology to eliminate the car as a major contributor to global warming.

Given that we can largely eliminate the carbon dioxide emissions from cars, over the next decade, why do politicians continue, to blame "the car" for "global warming?"

The politicians don't complain about the carbon dioxide emissions from all the land, air and sea transport now involved in "trade".

They don't complain about our road network being jammed with commerce's delivery vehicles.

And they don't complain about the explosion in air travel, which now requires four new airports, or the fact that the airline industry adds vast amounts of carbon dioxide and combustion products to our upper atmosphere.

So why do politicians single out the car as villain of the piece?

The answer is we cannot cope with any more cars on our roads.

If the politicians build another five million houses, by 2020, they will add 40,000,000 car journeys a day to our roads.

Road travel, specifically road haulage, will become impossible.

Therefore, to continue with "growth," politicians have to "ban" car use.

Roadside cameras are excellent devices for this.

They provide a continuing income, to install more cameras, to catch more motorists, infringing the law, and, sooner or later, everyone will be caught "three times".

That means no driving licence for hundreds of thousands of people.

That, and the ever-increasing cost of motoring, will drive millions of motorists off our roads.
