JOHN Brain believes there would be something "fundamentally wrong" with the game if Worcester were denied promotion.

The Sixways director of rugby has been watching the off-the-field speculation with interest as he continues to prepare for next season's Premiership baptism. A national newspaper last week suggested that Worcester's promotion could be in jeopardy because of a missed administration deadline.

However, the speculation is not bothering Brain who is ploughing on with recruitment.

"We are expecting promotion to the Premiership to be ratified at an England Rugby meeting tomorrow," said Brain.

"We don't envisage any problems and are not worried about the speculation.

"I think there are certain elements within the Premiership who don't want us in the league but I don't think we need to worry about them.

"How can you possibly say that a team, who have won 26 out of 26 National One games and have top class facilities, cannot replace a side who have lost all of their Premiership matches and don't have anything like our facilities?

"I think if that was the case there would be something fundamentally wrong with the game because we will enhance the top flight.

"I suspect common sense will prevail at the meeting tomorrow."
