SMOKING is set to be stubbed out in a Worcester caf.

Drucker's Patisserie Caf, in Chapel Walk in the CrownGate Shopping centre, is to introduce a non-smoking policy from next Monday.

And if the move proves popular, then every one of the chain's 33 cafs in the country will follow suit.

Costas Constantinou, retail director for chain, said it is a major shift for them, because Drucker's, which opened its first outlet in 1964, has traditionally been a place where people smoke while they eat.

"As the years have progressed, there has been a move to have non-smoking establishments and because of the greater risk to non-smokers.

"So we thought we have to do our job and introduce the ban," he said.

Mr Constantinou added that customers have generally responded well to the move in other parts of the country.

"Cafs that we have opened recently have been non-smoking and we have had a positive feedback from customers," he said.

"It just shows that people prefer a non-smoking environment."

"So soon, people in Worcester will be able to enjoy their food with a non-smoking experience."

Last week the Evening News reported that The Yorkshire Grey pub, in Earls Croome, near Upton-upon-Severn, had become completely smoke free.

Landlord, Steve Clark, said the ban had been a success.
