MALVERN UNITED U15 4, LYPPARD RANGERS U15 2

MALVERN United entertained Lyppard in a hard fought final game of the season to finish, as they started, on a winning note.

Both teams started brightly but United went ahead in the 30th minute when a long through ball from Alex Jenkins was met by Jamie Faulkner to slot home. The lead was short lived as Lyppard came back with a goal six minutes later when they beat the offside trap and again three minutes after that from a corner.

Minutes into the second half United received a blow when Craig Baker had to leave the field with a broken nose. Alex Dexter took his place and continued the midfield battle. United got level thanks to Liam Harford deftly lobbing the keeper. As Lyppard tried to regroup Liam Harford struck again just one minute later after a fine passing move.

United took control then and resolute defending from John Davies, captain Dom Portman and Mike James, backed up by keeper Gareth Atkinson kept any Lyppard threat at bay although they did receive a reminder when a long shot bounced back off the cross bar. Adam Oakley, Liam Harford and Eric Negrin-Torres continued to trouble the Lyppard defence and as they were being shadowed, Andy Nolan took advantage to send a long high ball into the packed area and over the away keeper into the net to secure the points.

Man of the match was John Davies

WORCESTER RAIDERS U13S 1,

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS u13s 6

NEWTOWN Sports Colts played their penultimate league match away to Worcester Raiders knowing a win would secure them at least runners-up spot.

The Colts started brightly, using the widths to great affect. Powell, Edwards, Allison, Caffull and Hale created several chances, but the strikers Twinberrow and Buckle were out of luck. However, the Colts fortune did change when Edwards combined with Allison, whose cross-shot was deflected into his own net by a Raiders defender. Encouraged by this, the Colts played some better football but without increasing their lead. The Raiders capitalised by grabbing an equaliser late in the half. The Colts got bogged down in the middle of the pitch, and the ball was forced forward to the Raiders striker who did well to beat two defenders and finish coolly past the helpless Johnson in goal.

In the second-half, Jaye came on for the Colts, who upped their tempo. Crane, Roskams and Scullion gave the Colts great defensive assurance from which to build, which continued when Elmes entered the game. With the constant pressure and possession, the Colts created numerous chances, two of which Allison grabbed to complete his hat-trick. Two cameo goals from Hale and Twinberrow increased the lead further, and Buckle's fortune finally changed when he got the team's sixth.

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U13s 3, WELLAND U13s 0

IN their final league game of the season Newtown Sports Colts entertained Welland.

Newtown started brightly enough, with Powell, Edwards, Hale, Caffull and Crane seeing plenty of the ball in midfield, although Welland didn't give them much time on the ball. The defence trio of Roskams, Scullion and Elmes contended well with any Welland breaks and provided great distribution, however, strikers Twinberrow and Buckle weren't given too many quality passes. Newtown did manage to make their possession pay, when midway through the half, Powell found himself with some space on the left and struck a sweet drive which drifted over the stranded keeper. Welland bounced back and fought for every ball but Hale managed to increase the lead shortly before half-time.

In the second half, Jaye came on for Newtown, as the match continued in the same pattern, with Newtown having the better possession but Welland always making the tackle. A third goal did arrive for Newtown when again Hale created his own bit of space and hit a left footed shot that found its way into the corner of the net. This signalled Johnson to make an on-field appearance for the final few minutes, as Newtown ran out deserving winners, in a game that definitely had an end of season feel about it. The result means that Newtown only missed out on the league championship on goal difference.

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U11s 0,

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U11s 3

THIS title decider went the way of the Wanderers with a three-goal second half blitz from Gregory and an exemplary goalkeeping display to inflict the first defeat on the Juniors.

Newtown had the better of the first half in which the Wanderers goalkeeper pulled off a succession of tremendous saves to keep his side in the game. Watling and Bannister tested him time after time but he was not to be beaten. The best chance fell to Turner after yet another save and the Juniors striker was unable to find the empty net.

The second half was more of the same with Wanderers reliant on the break. It was a breakaway that was the undoing of the Juniors. Gregory broke free and skipped past two challenges before driving home. Juniors had the perfect opportunity to get back into the game when awarded a penalty. The Wanderers keeper proved unbeatable with a stunning save to keep his side in front. Juniors kept up the pressure committing more and more boys forward but to no avail as the Wanderers defended in depth and every player threw themselves into tackles.

Another Gregory break yielded the same result as the Wanderers went two up. Now it was all out attack from the Juniors with little heed paid to defensive duties. They couldn't get a foot back into the match and in the dying seconds Gregory raced clear to notch his hat-trick.
