WITH British houses prices spiralling out of control, the appeal of buying property in sunnier climes has never been greater.

Around 50,000 Brits have already upped and left the country for Spain, paving the way for UK estate agents to jump on the bandwagon and advertise homes overseas.

Parkers International, in Foregate Street, is an independent international property agent.

It focuses on areas that are not heavily populated by the English.

A spokeswoman said: "People are flocking abroad for lots of reasons.

"People in England are living to work rather than working to live and there's no sense of community here.

"They want to avoid the whole rat race.

"The reason they go to Spain is they have the weather and a strong sense of community.

"Everything is much cheaper there and runs much better.

"It's like home from home because flights are so cheap.

"It costs less for a flight there than for a train ticket in this country."

As well as the weather being significantly better, the average life expectancy in Spain is better than in Britain and carbon dioxide emissions are almost double here, according to official statistics.

Spain also has 370 beaches which have received the Foundation for Environmental Education's coveted Blue Flag standard.

Those wanting a taste of the sun-kissed life and an opportunity to gain invaluable advice about the benefits and pitfalls of moving to Spain should pay a visit to the BBC Good Homes Show at Birmingham's NEC from Thursday, May 20 to Sunday, May 23.

Among its many new exhibitors is Spanish Living, which will occupy the largest stand at the event.

As well as being offered a glimpse into the Costa del Sol lifestyle, visitors will have the chance to talk to experts in every field of the Spanish property market.

There will be more than 4,000 properties on offer amid flamenco shows, designer room sets, traditional food and drink from the region and live Spanish music.

Over the four-day event, there will be a wealth of choice to suit every need and budget, from country homes to beachside villas.

And if you don't know where on Earth to start, there will be lawyers, independent financial advisers and representatives from VIVA Estates, one of the Costa del Sol's leading real estate agencies, on hand.

"Buying a home abroad can be a daunting prospect and many are put off by the perceived complications," said VIVA Estate's managing director, Chris McCarthy.

"But we can help make sure the buying process runs smoothly as all our staff already live and work on the Costa del Sol and can pass on their expert knowledge."
