A REDDITCH chartered surveyor will be racing the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend in his 40-year-old Elva DKW.

John Truslove has been invited to take part in the Formula Junior class at the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco.

The Historique event this weekend has been organised every other year since 1997 and includes six classes of cars, including pre-1947 and pre-1961 grand prix cars, pre-1953 sports cars, Formula Junior cars, pre-1966 Formula 1 cars and pre-1977 Formula 1 cars.

Mr Truslove said: "This is a very special invitation to a very special event and I am really looking forward to it.

"The car is currently being worked on in preparation for the season and I'm receiving a lot of help from friends in Germany who are sourcing parts and generally being very supportive.

"I think they feel involved as the car is German in origin and so they too will be rooting for me in the Ruhr," he said.

Mr Truslove would like to have a class win or possibly a place on the podium.

In only the third season of his midlife comeback, Mr Truslove won the 750 Motor Club Trophy series championship.

And he came second in his first ever outing in the Revival Race series in Mallory Park late last season where he drove a D-type Jaguar replica for the first time.
