JUNIOR rugby stars from Droitwich Spa High School have excelled themselves on the national stage by playing at Twickenham.
The Briar Mill school's U13s, representing the North Midlands, reached the semi-finals of the Emerging Schools tournament, played at the home of English rugby on Saturday, May 1.
Captained by Bobby Laurenson, the team played their 12-a-side 20-minute match in front of 35,000 people before the Army versus Navy fixture. They were narrowly beaten 5-0 - a single try - by Norton Knatchbull School, from Ashford.
Earlier in the day the side, who qualified for the 32-team event by winning the North Midlands Emerging Schools tournament in March, won five matches and drew one at Staines RFC to earn their Twickenham place.
Director of sport at the school, John Humfress, said: "The lads were superb. We did very well. They were quite overawed but played superbly well."
It is the latest achievement in a string of successes that has seen the 21-man squad win the Worcestershire Emerging Schools title and share the county schools' cup.
