FORMER Karter and single-seater racer, 18-year-old Matthew Nicoll-Jones is currently competing in the Lawline British Clio Cup at the Toca Touring Car meetings across the country.

Last weekend, the Wyre Piddle teenager competed at Silverstone where he achieved an excellent fifth place in Saturday qualifying in damp and slippery conditions.

The afternoon's first race saw the Vale racer make a good start to move up to fourth before being pushed off at the second corner.

Finding himself in last he battled his way back through the field to cross the line ninth.

His second outing the next day saw Nicoll-Jones start from 11th spot on the grid.

He again he made an excellent to slip into sixth place before again being pushed off.

A swift recovery saw him finish tenth a result that lifted him three places in the championship standings to 11th a good start to his first season in saloon cars.

The next round is at Oulton Park on May 22 and 23 and action from the series can be seen on Sky's Men and Motors channel.
