IN their opening Concorde Ladies League game of the season, Broadway entertained Hewell on a cold damp day when the green stood up well.

The host club recorded a comfortable victory after wins on two of the rinks, a draw on one and defeat on the other.

Also starting out against Hewell, the men made a winning start to their defence of the Concorde League title winning on four rinks and drawing the other.

In conditions that deteriorated as the afternoon went on, Broadway were seven shots down at halfway but, as the rain set in, they pulled away to win 107-86.

Mick Aubrey finished strongly in the second half to win 24-14, while Phil Taylor, who was ten shots down after 13 ends, came back well to draw.

With one shot to come on the final end, Taylor held game but Bob Niblock drew second wood to secure the draw.
