MALVERN Town's Worcestershire FA Senior Urn Final against Alvechurch, due to be played at Kidderminster Harriers' Aggborough Stadium last night, was postponed following a late afternoon deluge which flooded the pitch.

A new date has still to be arranged.

But Town received a double boost yesterday when West Midlands Premier Division title rivals Tipton Town lost 2-0 at Smethwick and their Langland Stadium ground was given the seal of approval by Midland Alli-ance officials.

Tipton's defeat leaves them still two points behind Malvern, but with only one game in hand.

Malvern's last game is a derby at Bromyard Town next Tuesday, while Tipton have home games against Ledbury Town on Saturday and Market Drayton on May 15 to play.

If Tipton slip up on Saturday, Malvern can clinch the title at Bromyard.

General manager Richard Anson said: "The title is still in Tipton's hands of course, but how they react to this defeat will be the acid test.

"Whatever happens it has been an absorbing contest which is now going to go to the wire and I wouldn't be surprised if there in not another twist in the tail."

Meanwhile, Malvern U18's Herefordshire FA "Giant-killers" Cup final against Cheltenham Town at Ledbury last night also fell foul of the weather and will now be played at the same venue next Tuesday (7.30pm).

The weather also put paid to last night's Worcester Nursing Cup final between Archdales and Malvern Rangers at St George's Lane. No new date has yet been arranged.

The Worcester League Phipps Cup final between Pershore Manor Rovers and Welland Athletic will now be played on Saturday at St George's Lane (2pm).
